There
is always a small adjustment period, when introducing any pet into a
new environment. Your new Kitten has been with his/her mother and
litter mates for the past twelve weeks and has never been beyond
the walls of our Home, Santa Fe Bengal Cattery. Bengals are very
intelligent, secure in their own personality, curious, and amiable in
their nature. They adapt well to new situations and like everyone (human, Cat, or dog!), however, sometimes a short
period of confinement in a smaller room in the new environment can help to make the
transition go smoothly, especially if there are other animals in your
home.
This introduction process may take 10 minutes... an hour or a day or two. Use your judgment at each step and then proceed to the next. Typically, Bengals just march right in and have fun exploring and introducing themselves to all interested inhabitants!
As
always, Santa Fe Bengal Cattery is concerned about all of their Kittens and
Cats well-being and happiness, so we welcome emails or phone calls from our New Owners and we will answer questions that are not covered on this site.

And you will then be prepared to introduce your new Kitten into your
household with other pets already established in your home.
If
your new Kitten is the only pet, then you may not need to follow these steps. Each Bengal, like any feline, has their own personality. With most being very brazen and adventurous, but some are a bit more cautious at first... before they decide that it is OK to rule the roost! If your Bengal needs a little adjustment time, then just follow the initial
confinement to a smaller room, until they feel comfortable. It may take ten minutes
to an
hour, then allow them out of the small room to explore their new home.
If they are the only Cat in the household, very often your new Bengal
Kitten may immediately feel right at home and you can skip this step. Just show them where their amenities are (litter box, food, water, toys)... then
enjoy your new Kitten!
The
introduction instructions are very detailed to assist a first time
Kitten/Cat owner. Many experienced Cat owners will already know most of
this information.
Please read the information on the "New Kitten Care" page to make sure that
your home is safe for your new Kitten. All Kittens of any Cat bred are very active and can get themselves into trouble, but Bengals can be super-charged and full hilarious playtime activities. The information in "New Kitten Care" is very useful, even for long-time Cat owners.
