How to Introduce your New Kitten to Other Pets in the Household... Phase 2
• To
further ease the transition, you may switch a toy, or sleeping blanket,
between the existing and the new pet(s). This allows them to get to
know each other in a calm and safe separate environment.
• Once
the new Kitten is feeling comfortable in the small room and is eating
and using the litter box, confine your existing pets to a different
room and then open the door to your Kitten's room and let him/her come
out to explore more of your home. Do not force them to explore; let
them, in their own time, decide to see the world. Usually, it happens
very quickly.
• Next,
place the carrier in a main room, such as a Living Room, and place your
Kitten back in their carrier with the door shut. Allow the existing
pets back out into the house. Quickly they will find the carrier and
introduce themselves to the new comer. There may be hissing and
spitting initially, but they will soon feel comfortable and begin to
relax.
• Finally,
you may open the carrier door and allow the new Kitten to meet the
other pet(s) face to face. Most often pets will get along very quickly,
however, there is a slim chance that some pet personalities may take
more time to adjust to each other. Watch them carefully during this get
acquainted period and be prepared to go back to an earlier step, if
your existing pet(s) shows any aggression to your new Kitten.
